Standard 7: Planning

DESCRIPTION

Standard 7: Planning

The teacher plans instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.

REFLECTION

I believe teachers must prepare ahead of time in order to be successful. This includes creating lesson and unit plans, as well as long and short term goals for students, this is key to successfully planning instruction.

Teachers must feel confident in creating and implementing lessons and units that connect previous and new material. A teacher can create these plans individually, or within a department to fit in with the district and state science curriculum. Teachers must be flexible in making adjustments to the curriculum to meet the needs of their students.

Collaboration with fellow teachers will help anticipate and prepare teachers for what students struggle with and offer different ways to teach the material to diverse learners, this is a necessary component in planning instruction.

EVIDENCE

Listed below are two sample lesson plans illustrating how I formulate a lesson that is based on the students needs, the subject matter, the community and curriculum benchmarks.

Lesson Plan 1: Paths of Pollution

Lesson Plan 2: Global Warming
