Standard 5: Motivation and Management

DESCRIPTION

Standard 5: Motivation and Management

The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

REFLECTION

I believe it is important for the teacher’s knowledge and understanding of individual and group motivation to inform the ongoing development of a classroom management plan. This serves to guide classroom interactions and reactions and must be flexible to accommodate individual needs within the classroom.  It is important for teachers and students to work cooperatively to establish classroom rules through collaborative decision-making. I believe teachers must understand the need to be able to identify problems, suggest alternatives, design a course of action and implementation strategies.
