DESCRIPTION
Standard 4: Multiple Instructional Strategies
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
REFLECTION
On a daily basis teachers are faced with multiple goals and objectives, including those dealing with content, basic skills, problem solving, attitudes, dispositions and critical thinking skills. I believe it is important for teachers to use a variety of instructional techniques to delivery material to their students. These techniques can include technology resources such as text-to-speech software, powerpoint, leveled readers, graphic organizers and other modes of representation. Teachers must use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners. I believe it is important for students to be given the time and materials to be active investigators, it is at this point they are able to construct a basic framework of knowledge. Teachers also need models of teaching that include inquiry learning, cooperative learning, concept attainment and class discussions. I believe as teachers understand and use the wide variety of instructional strategies available, they will better address the needs of the diverse learning abilities within the classroom.
EVIDENCE
I have included below a link to a reflection piece on the importance of creating units that have a universal design for learning approach and offer differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
