DESCRIPTION
Standard 3: Diverse Learners
The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adopted to diverse learners.
REFLECTION
Students bring a variety of experiences and skills to the classroom. These differences include varied learning styles and diverse cultural backgrounds. I believe it is important for teachers to address culturally relevant topics and develop strategies to meet the specific needs of children. Teachers should design instruction that helps use students strengths as the foundation for their growth. I believe it is necessary in the classroom that students are valued for their uniqueness and they respect this in their classmates. By creating a multicultural environment the classroom becomes a learning community where individual differences are respected.
EVIDENCE
I have included a link below to a culturally relevant and interdisciplinary thematic unit on global warming. This unit includes strategies and examples on implementing multicultural lessons and activities into the classroom.
