Standard 10: School and Community Involvement

DESCRIPTION

Standard 10: School and Community Involvement

The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support students’ learning and well-being.

REFLECTION

I believe the education of young people is a partnership between the school, the home and the community. Teachers who wish to strengthen the bonds among those individuals and organizations who contribute to the education and welfare of a community’s youth must be knowledgeable about the variety of ways in which families and community members can be involved in a way that benefits the students.

Teachers who establish a partnership with the families of their students must understand the cultural backgrounds of their students and the unique challenges those families may be experiencing. Technology provides teachers and administrators with important tools to help with these challenges. Schools must strengthen their connections with families and the community by posting school news, homework assignments, grades and teacher web pages on school or district web sites and by easing communication with teachers by providing e-mail or voice access to families.
